Outremont for Justin

La Presse reports that Justin Trudeau may seek the Outremont nomination. Apparently his reception hasn't been entirely rosy. Well if he's got the Frulla/Lapierre-heads bristling he must be doing something right.

Every franchise player must face the opposition of conservative "trade the draft pick for a veteran role player" types.

For that matter, every Trudeau must face the opposition of medium-firm nationalists who proclaim him the end of liberalism in Quebec.

None of it should dissuade Justin from pushing onward, and I don't think any of it will.

Opposition gee I can't see why. look where the Martin dynasty got us. Justin has nothing to recommend him other than his last name. Enough already we need more women. That's our goal for these nominations.

Trudeau is known nationally for a number of principled stands on important issues (Quebec nation/Darfur/Environment). There's more substance there to recommend him then nameless faceless woman has to recommend her, in fairness. Let women contest the candidacy of sitting MPs, and we can rid ourselves of some of the masculine dead weight we currently carry.

I wish your scenario was possible.
Sitting MPs are protected if they choose to run again.

S.B.'s point makes no sense. We can't have more women because one man runs? So not a single new candidate should be male? And to compare to the Martin "dynasty"? Come on. SO a father and son are the same, even if they specifically battled against each other from the beginning and represent totally different parts of the party? Politics is just about are you someone's son, and not at all your actual, oh I don't know, politics? What is being said here, is you don't like Justin, so you find whatever you can to make it seem universal.

And for someone who hated Ignatieff so much I'd have thought one of his big critics would be supported. But on this constant quest to smash out the good ol boys (even when they represent everything that is good and what we are supposed to stand for in this party) Trudeau is guilty I suppose.

Let's hope he runs. Surely we don't have the information, for him or against him, to condemn him or guarantee him a smashing success at this point. But it is sure worth finding out.

Westmount - I know that that's the case. I was just proposing what I feel to be a more sensible reform than simply and automatically rejecting every new male that seeks a nomination. But you're right - it's an unlikely scenario.
